We received this notice (including attached file) regarding changes to the closures of SH29 over the next few weeks, with a request to share the updates to everyone.
SH29 will now close from Sunday 7 December for 5 nights, between 8pm and 3.30am each night, reopening early Friday morning. These hours are shorter than previously advised.
The road will be closed between the SH29/24 and SH29/28 intersections on the Waikato side and the SH29/Cambridge Road intersection on the Bay of Plenty side. Emergency services will have access at all times.
Residents will be able to access their property from the relevant side of the closure at any time. However within the closure the state highway will be fully closed at Ruahihi and a number of other sites. These sites will open on the hour every hour each night to allow residents through.
The Ruahihi site can be avoided by using Ōmanawa, Peers and Mc Laren Falls Road. The other hard closures are just west of McLaren Falls Road, and west of Soldiers Rd, so residents beyond these points will only be able to pass through those on the hour.
The attached information sheet has a map showing all worksites and identifies the ones with hard closures.
Please also note the programmed works at Ruahihi will require 5 nights to complete and is weather sensitive. If this work is unable to proceed for any of these nights due to wet weather, additional night closures will be needed, which we will publicise as early as possible so road users can plan ahead.
Depending on the weather some other overnight work on SH29 planned for next week may continue but will operate under single lane stop/go closures and the highway will remain open.
If you or your members have any further questions about this please don’t hesitate to ask.
We thank you for your patience while we carry out this important work to improve the resilience and safety of this highway.
